Welcome to the Crude Oil Quality Association!

The Crude Oil Quality Association (COQA) is dedicated to the belief that maintaining the integrity and consistency of the refining characteristics of crude oil streams is of importance to all parties involved in crude oil activity, from production locations to the refinery.

To this end, we hold three meetings annually.  These meetings are open to the public and we welcome your attendance and involvement.

  • Fall 2020 COQA Online Sessions

    Dates: 21 – 22 Oct, 2020

video-conferenceConsidering the on-going uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, limitations regarding corporate travel, and our overarching concern for safety, the COQA Executive Board has decided to hold the October 2020 COQA meeting remotely, rather than meeting in Sugar Land, Texas as originally planned.

Based on our June 2020 COQA meeting which was held online utilizing the Zoom platform with over 150 participants, we anticipate another successful meeting in October!

Our partners at the Opportunity Crudes Conference have rescheduled their conference for October 25-27th, 2021. COQA will again partner with them in 2021.

WTI Specs Continue to Attract Attention

by Dennis Sutton | Jun 25, 2020
As has been discussed at various industry meetings and detailed in Turner, Mason & Company’s recent blog “Suspicious Minds- Quality Challenges and Crude Oil Exports”, WTI quality and quality specifications vary depending on location and transportation mode and route.

On June 23, 2020, Platts issued a proposal note, proposing specifications for WTI pipeline and cargo assessments. Their specifications address “direct-from- Permian” supply.
Their release is available for viewing here.
